Pioneering 3D Modeling and VR Innovation in Security Solutions
At OSI, where innovation drives industry leadership, the need for visually compelling presentations and training tools became increasingly apparent. The security screening division required dynamic solutions to showcase its products and technology effectively to clients and trainees without relying on physical equipment worth millions of dollars. While traditional methods were practical, they lacked scalability and engagement, especially for international markets where transporting equipment was neither cost-effective nor feasible. This challenge extended to training sessions, where the goal was to combine education with interactive experiences that could truly resonate with users in diverse regions. The task was clear—develop cutting-edge 3D models and VR solutions to elevate the brand’s presentation and training capabilities.
As the marketing specialist, I took ownership of building an internal library of hundreds of 3D models. These models were meticulously designed to support impactful client presentations, investor pitches, and YouTube ads. One of the standout contributions was the conceptualization of the 620 CX Orion series, a project that required precise 3D modeling to bring the product’s innovative design to life.
Collaborating closely with S2 University and its instructors, we ventured into VR development to revolutionize training programs in Unity. Together, we conceptualized and built VR games that showcased the Rapiscan products in interactive scenarios, blending education with entertainment. One of the VR modules challenged trainees to locate contraband hidden in various vehicles, improving their speed and accuracy with high scores that incentivized performance. Another module introduced counterfeit detection, where users wearing Oculus 3 VR headset compared items side by side—such as two whiskey bottles—with subtle differences in labels and liquid composition to determine authenticity. As the difficulty escalated, trainees honed their skills in spotting counterfeit goods. This innovative approach was embraced by modern government markets, even though older markets faced motion sickness challenges.
The VR tools proved to be a game-changer. Training courses delivered via Oculus VR devices eliminated the need for physical equipment while offering a hands-on experience. Trainees could engage with the products, master detection techniques, and refine their skills—all while reducing costs and broadening accessibility.
The 3D modeling and VR innovations significantly elevated OSI’s presentation and training capabilities. The internal library of 3D models became a go-to resource for visually engaging client presentations, while the VR solutions introduced a new era of training, setting OSI apart in the competitive screening solution market. These courses captivated trainees with their unique blend of realism and interactivity, providing valuable skills without the logistical and financial burdens of transporting equipment. The adoption of VR training tools by modern government markets reinforced OSI’s reputation as a forward-thinking leader in the industry, transforming how products were showcased and how users were educated. This success underscored the powerful impact of 3D visuals and VR, proving their ability to not only drive engagement but also redefine industry standards
